Early construction work is set to begin on the new Chatham-Kent Community Hub.
The municipality’s contractor, Fortis Construction Group Inc., will start work on the former Sears building at 130 King Street West in downtown Chatham on Monday, December 1. This will include setting up perimeter fencing, as well as preparation for demolition and expansion work.
CK Council awarded a $39.2 million contract for the construction of the project back in October. The Community Hub will consolidate the existing Civic Centre, library, and museum into a single building.
As part of the construction, the sidewalk and parking spaces on the south side of King Street West and the east side of Fifth Street will be closed for the duration of the work. Traffic control measures will also be installed around the site on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.
Motorists should expect some temporary delays during this time.
Completion of the Community Hub is planned for early 2028.
