Construction of the new Monsignor Uyen Catholic School in Chatham.

Big things are coming for the St Clair Catholic District School Board.

Officials with the English Catholic Board says construction of the new Monsignor Uyen elementary is on track to be finished at the end of July.

The school, located at the former Our Lady of Fatima site, will house Chatham’s French immersion students starting next fall.

“We are very pleased with the pace of construction on this project,” says Deb Crawford, Director of Education.  “We look forward to beginning to transition our staff into the building over the summer and will be ready to welcome students in September!”

Meantime, the board has selected an architect to work on plans for a new south-side elementary school, consolidating English language students from St Ursula, Georges P Vanier, and the former St Joseph.

“Through the Board’s RFP (request for proposals) process, the Ventin Group Architects (+VG) emerged as the successful proponent,” says Amy Janssens, Associate Director & Treasurer of the Board. “ The Ventin Group will assist the Board to develop a sustainable new school, which will include environmental and energy efficiency principles as part of the design.”

The firm will be holding user group sessions to gather input from students, parents, staff and other board officials in putting together the new school’s design.
