A Tilbury man is facing charges following a pair of copper wire thefts that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

The Chatham‑Kent Police Service said officers responded to two break-and-enters at the same business on Industrial Park Road in Tilbury during the week of January 5.

A quantity of copper wire was stolen during both break-ins, which caused damage to the equipment housing the wire. The cost for repairs is estimated at around $260,000.

Following an investigation, officers with the Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a Tilbury residence on Friday and arrested a suspect. Copper wire and equipment belonging to the business were also recovered.

As a result, a 24-year-old Tilbury man is now charged with two counts of break and enter, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and mischief over $5,000. The accused was held in custody pending his next court appearance.
