Municipal officials are looking into the feasibility of bringing back Chatham-Kent’s beach bus.

The seasonal bus ran each weekend between the Victoria Day long weekend and Labour Day with routes from Chatham to Mitchell’s Bay and Erieau, with stops in Pain Court, Grande Point, Charing Cross, and Blenheim along the way.

However, the service was paused during the pandemic and not renewed during the 2022 budget process.

South Kent Councillor Anthony Ceccacci raised a motion at Monday night’s council meeting to have municipal staff look into the possibility of restoring the service to promote affordable, accessible transit.

A report outlining the history, cost, and current financial implications of restoring the beach bus will be presented to council at its next meeting on May 27th.
