A Chatham-Kent councillor wants to keep a close eye on the dollars spent on moving municipal buildings into the former Sears department store in the Downtown Chatham Centre.
Councillor Alysson Storey is bringing forward a motion at tonight’s council meeting, asking for more detailed information regarding the full costs of the Sears building proposal. The proposal, which Storey has strongly been against, includes moving city hall, the Chatham Library and museum into the now vacant Sears store in the Downtown Chatham Centre.
Calling for financial transparency, Storey’s motion includes asking for a third-party consultant to verify construction and all relevant project costs. It also asks for council to get monthly financial and project updates, which would also be posted on Chatham-Kent’s website.
Storey’s motion would also include presenting to council all funding sources required to pay for the project come back to council before they vote on the next steps of the project.
