After just two nights of deliberations, the Municipality’s Budget Committee has decided on a final number for this year’s tax hike.
Budget Chair Derek Robertson says taxes are going up by 1.96%.
“The most significant burden of that increase is related to the infrastructure of this community,” Robertson says. “The infrastructure needs of this community are vast and wide, and varied in terms of their difference from our so-called comparators.”
He says while other municipalities are larger in population, Chatham-Kent is larger in size.
The increase is lower than last year’s hike, which came in at 1.99%.
No cuts or closures are part of this year’s budget.
