The lines of communication between Chatham-Kent and upper levels of government may soon become more open.
Council voted 14–0 Monday night in favour of hosting a public meeting involving municipal councillors, along with local MPs and MPPs, in an effort to improve relationships and increase dialogue across all levels of government.
The motion was brought forward by Councillor Brock McGregor, who said he was inspired after seeing Windsor’s city council launch a similar — and successful — initiative earlier this month.
“Around this table we often talk about some of the struggles we face because we are so dependent on provincial funding for things like homelessness, housing issues, infrastructure funding,” McGregor said.
“We also do a lot of work advocating to the province at things like AMO, in one-on-one meetings, in phone calls and emails, and I think it’s helpful for the public to be able to witness part of that process.”
Administration acknowledged the scheduling challenges with council being open to hosting multiple sessions to accommodate the availability of all MPs and MPPs.
