Chatham-Kent council will be dealing with a political hot potato during their online council meeting being held tonight.
A report and presentation will go before council, outlining recommended pay raises for the next term (2022-2026) of council.
Currently, the Chatham-Kent mayor receives an annual salary of just under $117,000, while part-time councillors’ yearly salary is just shy of $34,000.
The report, which was created by a citizen review committee, recommends councillors receive a raise of $3,000 annually plus the creation of an annual $1,200 health spending account.
The report doesn’t recommend an increase in the mayor’s salary, but recommends an increase in their training budget.
Other issues on tonight’s agenda include the 2021 Integrity Commissioner Report, implementing a working remotely policy, and a presentation on the municipality’s new diversity, equity and inclusion strategy.
