Court Weighs In On WWF Protest

Water Wells First Protesters blockade a North Kent Wind turbine site on Bush Line, August 29, 2017.

An injunction against protesters at a turbine site south of Wallaceburg will be heard in court later this month.

North Kent Wind issued a statement this morning saying that it is ceasing construction efforts at its turbine site on Bush Line for the time being.

A group of protesters have been camped out at the site for over a week, claiming that pile driving is ruining nearby water wells.

The company requested an injunction late last week, but says the issue won’t be before the courts until September 28th and 29th.

In the meantime, however, the court has put an interim order in place, preventing anyone from obstructing or impeding access to any North Kent construction sites.

Seven complaints have been issued since the pile driving began. However, North Kent Wind says the first three investigations have determined the water issues are not a result of turbine construction.

Four other investigations are ongoing, with results from two expected back later this week.
