Local Spotlight – Craig James Laur

Listen at 3:40 pm daily all this week as Jay & C-P feature Wallaceburg’s CRAIG JAMES LAUR on the XS Local Spotlight!

A W.D.S.S. graduate, Wallaceburg Ontario’s Craig James Laur is ready to break all barriers.

On top of the local scene as the former front man in ForClosure, Creek Street Sessions and more, Laur has now branched out and relocated to Toronto, where he is paving his own way as a musician – and an artist.

Creativity, touching lyrics and the ability to reach any audience; young and old alike – it’s a task Laur takes very seriously.

Craig has learned and matured musically over the years, playing alongside his brother Travis every step of the way. The two brothers, who have graced the 99.1 studios on several occasions – impressing each and every time, definitely seem to influence and push one another to grow as musicians.

“We end up singing along to every tune they play in studio,” said Jay Smith, Music Director at 99.1 CKXS. “C-P records the boys, lays down a simple track. Just acoustic guitar and vocals. And every time, we’re singing along the first or second time it hits the air. It’s REAL music. Impressive isn’t even the word.”

Laur has garnered great accolades from anyone willing to listen, whether here at home in the confines of Chatham-Kent, or now in the big smoke of T.O. where he’s quickly snagged a weekly gig inside one of the country’s musical hotspots. No easy task. Yet it’s no surprise.

Earlier this summer, Laur and Kurt Dickson, formerly of Texas Switch locally, made their way to Canada’s Got Talent auditions and were chosen at random to play before the judges and record an interview package to tell their story. If you ask anyone who has been privileged to hear Craig’s heartfelt talent on stage or in studio, they’ll all tell you there was nothing random about this selection.

“The dude seems to have been born to play music,” according to Chris Prince at 99.1. “I look forward to every track. I expect HUGE things from him. No pressure Craig”

Craig is now playing the waiting game along with Dickson, expecting the call from Canada’s Got Talent in coming weeks.

“If he gets that call, Canada may find their own Jack Johnson. Maybe better. I can’t see anyone NOT appreciating his music” added Smith.

Laur is attacking the social media scene, vying to create an active YouTube account and following. The more we help introduce the world to this amazing local talent, the more likely the world is to respond. You can help Laur’s cause by checking out any of his recent YouTube videos below, subscribing to his YouTube channel, selecting his videos as your favourites and sharing them on your own social media sites.
