A 7 year old girl is dead and 2 others are in a London hospital following a single car accident Monday night, and police say alcohol was a factor.
The crash happened about 9 pm on Jacob Road near Given Line when a 34 year old Chatham man, driving his girlfriend’s 3 girls, left the road and flipped over into a water filled ditch.
The man was able to get 2 girls out, but volunteer fire fighters had to remove the third girl.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A 4 year old girl was airlifted to London, and an 11 year old was transported to London by ambulance.
Officers took the man in for a breathalyzer.
As a result of the investigation the man has been charged with impaired driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and 2 counts of driving while under suspension.
Police are not releasing the name of the accused to protect the names of the victims.
The investigation is on going.
