Crash On Hwy. 401 Leaves One Dead And Another Seriously Injured

Police have closed the westbound lanes of Highway 401 west of Tilbury after one person was killed and another was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers were investigating a multi-vehicle collision on the highway between Gracey Side Road and Comber Side Road, when a second collision occurred involving two tractor-trailers and a pickup truck at around 10:40 a.m. on Friday.

The driver of a tractor-trailer involved in the second crash was pronounced dead at the scene while the the driver of the pickup truck was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The identity of the driver killed in the crash is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

The collision remains under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 remained closed at Country Road 42 as of 3:15 p.m.
