Marjorie Crew is chomping at the bit to get back to the Civic Centre.
The Chatham resident served in Ward Six from 2006 to 2014, but left Council Chambers after an unsuccessful mayoral bid in 2014.
This week, Crew was re-elected to council. She says the break gave her a fresh perspective.
“Four years, I spent working on some of those gaps in the community (with her work at Family Services Kent,) different things our community needs, including the new animal shelter,” Crew explains. “All of those things I’ve been doing and learning from are going to give me a stronger and better voice to be a better councillor for the next four, or eight, or however many years the community will have me.”
Crew is excited to get down to work, especially with so many women around the table.
“I think our council should be representative of the community that we represent,” Crew says. “Women bring a different type of solution-based ideas, ideas on policy, maybe a little more socially and community driven. I don’t like to split things up by gender, but this is such a historic thing.”
Crew says she’s thrilled to be part of the new council with a new mayor and can’t wait to see the direction they take.
