It’s been a dark and cold few days for hundreds of residents across Chatham-Kent.
Hydro and emergency crews have been working around the clock to restore power following Wednesday’s ice storm.
Officials with Hydro One say the ice buildup along with strong winds damaged equipment including cross arms and insulators and brought lines down.
The utility lists Chatham-Kent, Essex County, and Aylmer among the hardest hit regions in southwestern Ontario.
The majority of Entegrus customers in Chatham-Kent have had their power restored, although there are a handful of properties in Ridgetown and Erieau still without service.
Dozens of pockets of outages remain for Hydro One customers from Tilbury to Thamesville and points south, in some cases power isn’t expected to be restored until 6 o’clock tonight.
The municipality opened the Tilbury Arena as a warming centre last night.
