Crews Tackle Walpole Marsh Fires

Fire fighters on Walpole Island First Nation were kept busy overnight with three separate marsh fires.

Officials say the first blaze was doused quickly and the second brought under control with minimal effort. However, the third escalated into a large-scale fire that was burning out of control.

Fire crews took a defensive attack, conducting a successful back-burn to contain the flames, prevent further damage, and mitigate the threat to nearby hydro pole sand power lines.
