While Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers continued to be a valuable tool in solving crimes across the municipality in 2022, the community-based program saw fewer tips than the year prior.

According to information provided by the Chatham-Kent Police Services, a total of 479 tips were called into Crime Stoppers last year, resulting in 15 arrests. However, this was a sharp decline from the 55 arrests made in 2021 as a result of 586 tips.

Fewer charges were also laid last year as a result of tips, with 41 laid in 2022 and 145 charges laid in 2021.

The value of property recovered last year thanks to information from tipsters totalled $2,000, with another $102,780 worth of illicit drugs seized.

Since its formation in 1987, Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers has received 29,459 tips that have resulted in 7,656 arrests and 16,424 charges being laid.
