Kids with developmental disabilities are going to get some help transitioning into broader society thanks to the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent’s “Life Link” program. ctc-cheque-jan-12

The program is for people up to the age of 21 and RBC is handing over $25,000 to make it happen.

Centre Executive Director Donna Litwin-Makey says the government doesn’t fund this sort of thing, so grants are needed to make it happen.

“Particularly social work staff, who work really closely with families and youth through their school and team and on into early adulthood years,” Litwin-Makey says. “The grant is so important because our Ministry funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth really focuses on our occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy.”

RBC spokesperson Fran Savoni says the bank likes to help out where it can. “We try to invest as much as we can into our communities,” Savoni says. “RBC truly supports not only mental health but mental health and youth.”

Roughly 2400 people received assistance from the centre last year.
