While all may seem quiet on the surface, staff and supporters at the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent continue to work furiously behind the scenes to build a new, expanded facility.
Executive Director Donna Litwin-Makey says progress being made of the facility, to be located on McNaughton avenue West in Chatham.
“The building of a new CTC facility for our community is very important to many local children and families and we need to get it right,” Litwin-Makey stated in a news release. “That’s why we are taking the time now to continue gathering input at key planning points so that the architects can design a unique facility that best serves children and families for many years to come.”
“The new and expanded Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent will provide families with the supports and services they need under one roof,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, “It will mean greater access to more occupational therapy, more physiotherapy and more speech-language pathology services for children with special needs in the Chatham-Kent area, making it easier for families to receive the services they need closer to home.”
The CTC-CK Building Committee has been reviewing architectural concepts and collecting input from CTC families, clinicians, and staff on the kind of space that would be most beneficial.
The team is now nearing the end of the design development phase, which includes various steps of Ministry approval. Litwin-Makey says all planning, including due diligence to ensure the land is ready for construction and finalizing the design, must be completed before a date for ground-breaking can be set.
