Most publicly funded schools across the region will remain closed today as the battle between education workers and the Ford Government continues.

CUPE will be holding a news conference later this morning, joined by a number of other public and private sector unions.

On the picket line in Chatham on Friday, CUPE Local 4168 President Dave Geroux said the union’s main goal right now is to get back to the bargaining table.

“The province is upset with how (the government) is handling things right now, and to try to heavy-handily legislate an agreement is not the right way to handle it. Let’s get back to the table and bargain out an agreement that is good for staff, is good for students, is good for schools, and get it done.”

Meantime the Ontario Labour Board held a third and final day of hearings yesterday to determine the legality of the education workers’ job action.

Schools within the Lambton Kent, St Clair Catholic, and Providence French Catholic board remain closed today with student given the option of shifting to some form of online learning this week.
