One Councillor has some concerns when it comes to supporting sporting events with tax dollars.
East Kent Councillor Steve Pinsonneault says supporting the Pinty’s Elite 10 Grand Slam of Curling event may set a precedent:
“I wish the event well, but we’re dealing wit the public purse, and I don’t think we should be putting their money up front,” Pinsonneault says. “We have lots of other events that happen in our community, and once you start doing something like this you’ve pretty well got to be fair to everybody.”
This comes after Council’s decision earlier this week to put up $160,000 to support the international curling event coming to Chatham next September.
