As part of Cyber Security Awareness Month, OPP are warning residents about e-mail scams that are going around.
Police are urging everyone to not reply to e-mails that ask for your personal information.
One type of scam is called Ransomware, where a pop-up will claim that it’s a law enforcement agency. It will make a false accusation about illegal online activities and will demand payment to unlock your computer. Once the user has entered their information, this information can be used to steal the user’s money or identity.
Police say that you can protect your computer by using anti-virus software, and to report any suspicious e-mails.
