A Chatham man is facing a long list of charges following a police chase between Wallaceburg and Chatham.
An officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police spotted a swerving vehicle that was driving without its lights on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg at around 3:20 a.m. on Monday. Believing the driver was impaired, the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over. However, the driver recklessly sped off towards Chatham, and the officer contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
While fleeing from police, the vehicle struck a curb in the area of the Real Canadian Super Store on St. Clair Street in Chatham. The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was arrested following a brief chase.
As a result, a 40-year-old Chatham man has been charged with impaired driving, flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of a controlled substance, driving while under suspension, failing to comply with a demand, and using a licence plate that is not authorized for a vehicle.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
