Time is running out to get involved in Operation Backpack, a program that provides school supplies to families in need.

Coordinator Jean Lacina says they’ve seen a decrease in the number of applications this year.

“There’s a little bit of concern about maybe people didn’t know we’re still running it this year because we didn’t quite have as much contact through the schools to parents,” Lacina says.

The deadline to apply for help is today, either online at OperationBackPacksCK.ca or through the United Way office at 519-354-0430.

In the meantime, donations are still being accepted. Backpacks and supplies will be available for pickup next Wednesday at the United Way office in Chatham, and in Tilbury and Wallaceburg on Thursday.
