Today marks the final chance for local residents to have their say on potential changes to Chatham-Kent’s ward boundaries and council composition.
Consulting firm StrategyCorp has presented several options on the number of councillors and potential role of an elected deputy mayor; whether councillors are elected by ward, at-large, or some combination of the two as well as how many councillors are elected per ward; and how well the Municipality’s current ward boundaries deliver effective representation and new options to re-draw boundaries.
A series of public meetings have been held on the issue, including two earlier this month as part of the review process.
An online survey will continue accepting submissions until the end of the day. CLICK HERE to find the survey on the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website.
The team of consultants will make recommendations based on key considerations, including representation by population; present population and projected growth; communities of interest; physical and natural boundaries; and the overriding principle of “effective representation.”
A final report is expected before council on December 16th, with any changes put into effect for the next municipal election in 2026.
