
Time is running out for prospective candidates to file papers to run in the upcoming Chatham-Kent municipal election.
The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal Election will close on Friday at 2 p.m. Eligible candidates can run for one of 14 seats on council, the mayor’s position, or as a trustee for one of the local school boards.
Nomination forms must include 25 endorsement signatures from eligible electors. At the time of submission, candidates must also pay a $200 filing fee to run for the mayor’s seat or a $100 fee to run for a seat on council.
Until candidates file a nomination, it is unlawful to raise campaign funds or incur campaign expenses.
