Deadline Looms to Register for CK Career Expo and Job Fair

Local businesses are being encouraged to register soon for a large-scale career fair being held in the fall.

Mayor Darrin Canniff says October’s Learning, Earning and LivingCK Career Expo and Job Fair is a great opportunity to talk to job-seekers.

“We’re expecting over 40 different employers. We did one last November and it was a huge success. There’s people from all over, people from Alberta, a lot of people from Toronto, London, Windsor, just to understand the opportunities here.”

The event will also cater to senior elementary and high school students.

“It’s so important that students understand there’s so many opportunities,” Canniff says. “I’ve been in a lot of classrooms and I ask the question all the time, ‘When you graduate, do you want to stay in Chatham-Kent?’ Probably 60-70% say no, I want to leave.”

Canniff says most students who plan to move away from the community say there are no jobs and there is nothing to do.

“It’s so important that we make sure kids growing up are aware there are huge opportunities here at home.”

The career fair will be held October 18 and 19 at the Bradley Convention Centre.
