A Wallaceburg woman will have to wait a few more months to learn her fate in connection to an anti-COVID restriction rally in downtown Chatham.
A one-day trial for Laura Myers was held by videoconference on Monday, nearly two years since a November 2020 protest in Tecumseh Park and subsequent march down King Street.
Myers is accused of organizing the rally, which drew an estimated 100 people, which authorities have said went against the Reopening Ontario Act. At the time, provincial restrictions limited outdoor public gatherings to 25 people at unmonitored events and 100 people at monitored events.
The 33-year-old has pleaded not guilty.
The matter will be back before the courts on January 31st, 2023 to set a date for Justice Helen Gale to deliver her decision.
If convicted, Myers could face fines ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 and up to a year behind bars.
