A local country duo is looking to the community for support.
Megan and Pat Whalen make up the band Deep Southwest and are in the midst of filming their new streaming show “Due Southwest” to air on Bell Fibe TV.
Megan Whalen says they will be putting on a free concert at Red Barn Brewing Company in Blenheim next Wednesday.
“It’s going to be an hour and a half, two hours, we’re going to get up on that stage and sing all the music from the show,” Megan says. “We’ve got our hip hop, our classic country, and we’re going to take you through the whole show and how we’ve crafted it and put it together, and you’ll talk to some of the people that are on the project as well.”
The concert will also serve as a launch for the band’s Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project.
“There’s lots of cool rewards to come with a Kickstarer, such as coming and hanging out behind the scenes on set, as well as possibly being a part of the show, naming a character, all sorts of fun things like, we’re not just asking for straight-up handouts.”
The band will also be filming at the Sons of Kent Brewing Co. in Chatham later in October, and will be putting out a call for extras to be part of the show.
The show provides an opportunity for local businesses with 15 second commercials, product placements, and filming locations. The Whalens say they’ve been overwhelmed by the support shown by local business owners so far.
Pat says they are very proud to have a made-in-CK production team, either people who were born and raised locally or who have moved to the area.
The six-episode show will be available across a large portion of Canada next year and streaming online for the next five years.
