The municipality is taking over the demolition of the house at 315 Elgin Street that was destroyed by a fire earlier this year.
The house, which in its prime was one of Wallaceburg’s grandest homes, has fallen into disrepair in the last decade.
The property was heavily damaged by fire on February 17th, a blaze that claimed the lives of three people.
Council removed the home from its heritage register at their meeting held on Monday night, which needed to be done for demolition to occur.
Chatham-Kent’s director of planning services Ryan Jacques told council that a request for proposal has been tendered by the municipality for the demolition and if all goes to plan, the house will be torn down sometime in the next month.
A contractor to complete the process because the home owner indicated they would not be proceeding with the work after receiving a demolition order.
Any costs that the municipality incurs will be put on the tax roll of the property.
