It’s going to be a busy seven months for officials with the Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The organization has re-launched its Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign with $2.4 million left to raise before the end of March, 2018.

Health Alliance Vice President and CFO Jerome Quenneville says the government doesn’t provide any funding for equipment.

“We’re not able to pay for that equipment out of hospital operations, so we really look to the community help renew these pieces of equipment in trying to ensure that the service is as up to date as we need.”

Once the fundraising campaign is complete, there will be 18 new DI machines to replace aging and outdated technology.

“When you have older equipment, 10, 12, 14 years old, it’s really difficult to find the right parts” Quenneville explains. “With these older units and switching out circuit boards, if it really goes it’s going to be a heavy price to get a new one in, and there’s no guarantee it will actually work.”

The Foundation will be holding a number of events over the next few months, including this fall’s annual Pumpkin Run, with all proceeds going to the DI campaign.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance performs 101,000 diagnostic imaging exams each year in both Chatham and Wallaceburg.
