Local residents are invited to celebrate the festival of lights this month.
The Chatham-Kent Asian Cultural Association will be holding its annual Diwali event on Saturday, November 14 at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, marking the South Asian celebration of light over darkness and hope over despair.
“Diwali is a celebration that brings people together,” said Giri Thommandram, senior committee member and spokesperson for CKACA, in a news release.
“Each year, we are encouraged by the growing participation from across the community. The event offers an opportunity to celebrate heritage, learn from one another and strengthen the bonds that make Chatham-Kent such a welcoming place to live.”
A festive dinner runs from 5:30 until 7p.m., followed by a free cultural showcase open to the public until nearly 10:00 p.m. including performances from across the community.
Organizers say the annual event is a great way to bring together people of all backgrounds to reflect on the richness and diversity of South Asian culture.
Advance registration is required for the dinner. Those looking to sign up or get more details can email ckacaevents@gmail.com or call 519-401-3162.
