Dogs Feel Cold Too

Our furry friends may carry more body hair than we do, but that doesn’t make them immune to cold weather.

Jason Hamm, manager of animal control, says animals will try to tell you when they are cold.

“Animals don’t wear coats or shoes or  boots, obviously so it’s their bare feet on cold surfaces and their skin. Especially if you have a short haired dog and it can become very very dangerous to animals  a  lot quicker than what people think,” says Hamm.” So it depends on the breed and the owner, one of the first signs you can tell if any animal is getting cold is that they’ll start to lift their paws off the ground. Then I’d suggest that’s the time to take your animal indoors.”

Hamm says animals that are normally kept outside are required to have, at the minimum, an insulated shelter, food and water and a heat lamp is a good idea too.
