Those helping the less fortunate in Wallaceburg are looking for some help themselves.
Since opening in January, R.O.C.K. Missions spokesperson Lisa Medd says the drop-in centre is seeing the need, first hand.
“On a busy day now we see an average of about 30 people, and on a quieter day now, which is what we used to think was a busy day, we still see probably 12-15 people a day.”
The drop-in centre is open from 2-6pm each day, with extended hours during extreme heat.
“When we first opened, we had all kinds of supplies. The community was absolutely fantastic, and the community is still great, I just don’t think they realize the need continues,” Medd explains. “The community still definitely comes in with stuff, but we do have a list of things we certainly could use.”
Those who use the centre are given a meal and a place to rest, but also items they can take with them.
Donations can be dropped off at 719 James Street, or call 226-626-8996.
