Home Canada Obits Dorothy McKeough

Dorothy McKeough

Died on May 22nd, 2015 at her home “Four Winds.”
Dorothy Patricia McKeough (nee Lapp) was born in Peterborough, Ontario 2/22/22 to Mayme and Charl Lapp. Her younger brother Fred lives in Washington State. Amongst the many schools she attended were CCI, Chatham, and Havergal College, Toronto, where she graduated as Games Captain.
In 1942, she married the love of her life Stewart McKeough. She joined the CWAC in 1942, going overseas to join her husband in England in 1944. She returned in late 1944 in time for the birth of her first daughter Lee Ann (Charles Gladding) of Sarasota, followed by Joy of Toronto, Bonny of Cedar Springs, Woody (deceased, married to Susan Rankin) and Charlotte of ‘next door’.
There are six grandchildren: Stephanie Chapman Cook of Port Stanley and Sarah Chapman of Sarasota; Michael Poyntz of Toronto and Jeremy Poyntz of Whistler; September Weir Kuromi of Kamloops and Orion Weir of Rossland; and eight great grandchildren. She had a wonderful life, full of her many talents: painting, dancing, knitting (for the asking she would knit you the most intricate sweater), needlepoint, composing witty doggerel for every occasion, and had a great love of music (especially the big band era). Her nickname was “Big Dot,” and occasionally “Hurricane Dot”.
In her thousands of miles of cruising and sailing with family and friends, all her shipmates acclaim her to be one of the best cooks and hostesses that ever sailed the Great Lakes and high seas. And as Dorothy always sang – “I’ll be down to get you in a taxi honey………”.
