A local historian is being recognized on the provincial stage.
Dorothy Wallace, Chatham-Kent’s 2025 Senior of the Year, has been honoured as this year’s Ontario Senior of the Year. Nominated by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the Ontario Senior of the Year award recognizes an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural, or civic life of their community.
Wallace has dedicated her life to preserving and promoting the rich Black history of the region. She currently serves as the president of the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum and has been a vocal advocate for addressing systemic issues affecting the Black community.
Wallace has also expressed strong support for initiatives recognizing racism as a public health issue in Chatham-Kent, emphasizing the importance of starting meaningful conversations and actions to benefit future generations.
