Doug Ford is Ontario’s new PC leader after a tumultuous weekend.
The former Toronto city councillor beat out Christine Elliott by a narrow margin, but Elliot conceded defeat yesterday.
Elliott first disputed Saturday night’s results, citing “serious irregularities” in the race, but last night issued another statement offering her congratulations to Ford.
Over 64,000 Ontario Conservative party members voted in the leadership election last week. Officials say this is more than double the turnout from the 2009 race, and is the highest turnout in the party’s history.
Meantime it’s likely to be a busy morning at Country Style Donuts in Wallaceburg as Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton meets with constituents to hear their concerns.
McNaughton will be at the Dufferin Ave coffee shop from 8:30 until 9:30.
