A conflict between a cyclist and homeowner in Dover Township turned ugly this week.

Chatham-Kent Police were called about an ongoing dispute on Grand River Line. Authorities say the homeowner had been throwing rocks at the cyclist and even using his truck tires to spew gravel in the victim’s direction.

When officers arrived Tuesday afternoon, the man allegedly ran into his garage and grabbed a loaded .22 caliber rifle, but when he pointed the weapon at police, officers used a taser and took the man into custody.

The cyclist, a 78-year-old Raleigh Township man, suffered minor injuries from the rocks.

The accused, a 71-year-old man, is charged with assaulting a peace officer, various weapons offences including pointing a firearm, criminal harassment, assault with a weapon, and two driving related offences.
