Some residents are still cleaning up after a short but damaging storm rolled across Chatham-Kent late last week.

Officials from the Northern Tornadoes Project say there was significant damage to several structures following the storm shortly after 2 o’clock Friday morning. The damage surveyed included several barns and farm buildings, power poles, and trees. No injuries were reported.

Later that day, crews from the London-based research team completed a ground and drone survey, documenting damage in the area, and conducting radar analysis, confirming an EF0 downburst with winds of 130 kilometres an hour.

Officials say similar downburst damage was reported in other locations from Windsor to Shrewsbury, however only damage near Chatham was surveyed.

The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded at Western University in 2017 to better detect tornados throughout Canada and improve severe and extreme weather understanding.
