Downtown Revitalization Getting a Funding Boost

The province is giving Chatham-Kent more than $114,000 to revitalize downtown and main street areas.

This is part of Ontario’s Main Street Revitalization Initiative, which involves a $26-million dollar investment in communities across the province.

Mayor Randy Hope says the money will go to an existing municipal fund, although there’s no word yet on how the funds will be divvied up.

“We still have unfinished work in some of our downtown core areas,” Hope says. “We’ve been working on our downtowns utilizing money from our infrastructure, this helps a little bit.”

The funds can go toward landscaping, lighting, signage, and other downtown improvements to enhance local economic growth.

Economic Development Minister Steven Del Duca will be making stops in Windsor, Essex County and Chatham-Kent today to make the official announcements.
