A Chatham-Kent councillor is asking for receipts ahead of the upcoming municipal election.
Councillor Ryan Doyle put forward a notice of motion at Monday’s council meeting requesting that administration provide a report outlining the mayor’s and councillors’ motions, the number of agenda items pulled, and their budget activity during the current term.
Doyle is also requesting that administration continue bringing these reports forward in the final months of each council term moving forward.
The Ward 2 representative said the report would provide transparency for voters, noting that councillors are often elected on promises to lower taxes or improve the municipality. Doyle said making motions is part of a councillor’s role “to bring change or find out information that will make improvements to our municipality.”
Doyle’s motion will be discussed at the next council meeting on June 8. If approved, the report would be presented to council at the September 14 meeting.
