49 young people from across Chatham-Kent have been recognized for giving back to their community,
The inaugural Youth Community Recognition Awards were held at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday, honouring students nominated by their school principals for their outstanding commitment to community service.
Each recipient was given an engraved award and the choice between a $100 gift certificate to a restaurant or $150 towards a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP), generously provided by Mainstreet Credit Union.
Municipal officials hope to make the event an annual tradition supporting youth volunteerism.
