Provincial Police say two suspects remain at large following a suspected firearms smuggling incident.

In the early morning hours of October 26th, members of the Ontario Provincial Police Border Enforcement Security Task Force received information about suspicious activity in the Port Lambton area near Old River Road. A personal watercraft with two occupants was seen on the St. Clair River.

With help from Lambton OPP, the canine unit, emergency response team, and Walpole Island Police, officers seized 36 illegal firearms.

Police believe the two suspects may have fled the area on foot, and are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen the pair or the boat.

“Illegal firearms pose a serious risk to public safety and are often used by organized crime groups, including street gangs, to commit violent crimes including theft, intimidation, extortion and homicide.” says Detective Inspector Lee Fulford of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau. “Any tip from the public, no matter how small, may be the missing piece that officers need to solve this investigation and to prevent future firearms smuggling incidents.”
