Dr. Colby Issues Class Order To Slow Spread

Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a class order to protect members of the community from the spread of COVID-19.

The order is pursuant to Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.H.7 and is effective immediately.

Dr. David Colby says the order is issued to all residents and people present in Chatham-Kent whom: test positive for COVID-19, have symptoms compatible to COVID-19, are waiting COVID-19 test results, and/or have been identified as a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19.

These individuals must ensure they abide by the actions listed in the order to protect the community of Chatham-Kent from the spread of COVID-19. Briefly, this includes:

  • Comply in good faith with community screening at workplaces, businesses, schools, child care facilities or other organizations;
  • Isolating immediately if directed by CK Public Health;
  • Remaining in isolation from the community if positive for COVID-19, experiencing symptoms, waiting for test results or have been identified as a contact of a confirmed case until further direction is provided;
  • Keeping away from vulnerable persons (if in isolation, experiencing symptoms, waiting for test results or is a contact of a confirmed case) such as those with underlying medical conditions, a compromised immune systems, people over 60 years of age, and those living in a group living setting;
  • Providing close contacts’ names and phone numbers for contact tracing;
  • Seek medical attention if your illness is worsening;
  • Informing CK Public Health if you need assistance with resources during your isolation period, and
  • Following all instructions given by CK Public Health.

Failure to comply with the order is an offence under the Health Protection and Promotion Act which can include a fine of not more than $5,000 (for a person) or not more than $25,000 (for a corporation) for every day or part of each day on which the offence occurs or continues.
