A group of local dragon boat racers will be hitting the ice in Ottawa this weekend for the 2nd annual Ice Dragon Boat Races.

President of the Raging Dragons of Chatham-Kent, Mike Powell says they got their feet wet – quite literally – last year.
“Unfortunately last year in Ottawa, on the day of the competition the weather soared to +5 (Celsius) and the ice conditions on the canal became quiet soggy,” Powell says. “Most teams that did their second race had to have people push their boats because the conditions just weren’t very good for it.”
The forecast is calling for temperatures around -10 this weekend, which should be perfect for racing.
The club has an app, where they’ll be posting live results through the weekend.
The Raging Dragons are sending two teams to this year’s event, and Powell says they’re aiming for a top 10 finish for the men’s team, and a medal for the women.
The club is also recruiting new members, and hope to have two full boats in the water this summer.
