Dragon Boats Return to the Sydenham This Weekend

Dragons will be racing across the water in Wallaceburg this weekend.

The Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival takes place Saturday, June 6 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18.

The 24th annual event on the Sydenham River is typically seen as the unofficial start of summer, drawing thousands of people to Wallaceburg’s downtown.

Dozens of teams from across North America have registered to take part in the event, which includes sprint races and a dragon boat tug of war.

Participants will also pause to honour those who have been affected by cancer with the Breast Cancer Flower Ceremony. Carnations will be available for a donation through the Breast Buddies team.

Opening ceremonies are slated for 7:45am with the first boats hitting the water shortly after.
