Dragon boats will be hitting the water this weekend for an annual event in Wallaceburg in support of several local charities.

The 21st Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival kicks off on Saturday at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18

Participating teams come from many diverse areas of the community, including professional teams, employee groups, community groups, and breast cancer survivor teams.

The annual event on the Sydenham River is typically seen as the unofficial start of summer, drawing thousands of people to Wallaceburg’s downtown.

James Street will be closed in downtown Wallaceburg between Nelson Street and Fork Street from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. for the event.
