A Dresden man is in trouble with the law after allegedly assaulting another person with a shovel.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said the victim went to check on the well-being of a man on Brown Street and Dresden on Tuesday. However, when they went to the back of the property, the man aggressively charged at the victim with a shovel and allegedly struck them, knocking them to the ground.

The victim suffered an unspecified injury.

Police were called shortly after 7:30 p.m. and officers arrested the 24-year-old Dresden man who is now charged with assault. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
