Several of Dresden’s legendary athletes are set to be recognized for their many sporting achievements.
The Dresden Sports Hall of Fame has announced this year’s list of inductees, who will be honoured during a ceremony at Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre on April 12.
Paul Bellamy will be inducted in the Male Athlete category, while Cathy Depencier will be honoured in the Female Athlete category. The Legend category is being awarded to Gord Peters and Ian Avery will be inducted in the Builder category.
The 1967 and 1969 Dresden Bantam baseball teams will be inducted as well.
Brittany Pegg will be awarded the Walter D. McFadden Trophy and the Lynn Memorial Award will be presented to Ken Smith.
Sports broadcaster and Dresden native Trevor Thompson will be the inaugural recipient of the Bruce Huff Memorial Award, an accolade presented to a member of the media in recognition of their outstanding contribution to sports coverage.
The Dresden Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony will feature four-time Stanley Cup champion Joey Kocur and sports television broadcaster Rod Black as guest speakers. Tickets to the event are available for purchase at McKellar’s Flowers & Gifts in Dresden.
