An alleged drunk driver has been arrested following a crash in Tilbury East Township.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Queens Line and Merlin Road around 6:30 Wednesday evening.

Witnesses told police a vehicle had been seen driving erratically on the 401, then got off at Queens Line and crashed into a ditch. The driver then allegedly left the scene in another vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the second vehicle and identified the accused.

The officer suspected the man was under the influence of alcohol and brought him to police headquarters for tests.

The 28-year-old was charged with impaired driving and operating vehicle with a blood alcohol over the legal limit, issued a 90-day license suspension, and released with conditions and a date in court later this month.
