Chatham-Kent officers avoided high speed chase late Tuesday evening by calling it off for safety reasons.
About 11:30 an officer saw a driver hit a pole on Richmond Street.
He tried to stop the driver but he fled through a stop sign and red light.
The officer called it in and a short while later found the car on Kent Bridge Road with a flat tire.
The driver was arrested and it was discovered the car was stolen from Halton Region.
The 73 year old man of no fixed address is banned from driving for medical reasons.
The laundry list of charges includes possession of property obtained by crime over 5,000, careless driving, flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He was held pending a bail hearing.
